Sporting Kansas City vs Montreal Impact Predictions

Sporting KC will be hoping to claim their second league win of the new season at home to Montreal Impact on Saturday, but their guests have already won twice on the road. Sporting KC were held to a draw last time out, while Montreal Impact picked up all three points in Orlando, which means both clubs currently sit in the play-off places.

Colorado Rapids and Sporting KC went in at the interval goalless when they locked horns before the international break, but early in the second half Rubio scored to put the home side in front. Sporting KC controlled the majority of the overall possession, but didn’t create as many goal scoring opportunities as their hosts, and it wasn’t until Colorado Rapids had Blomberg sent-off late on that the visitors carved out their equaliser through substitute Russell with two minutes left on the clock. Montreal Impact raced into a 2-0 lead away at Orlando City, with Okwonkwo and Piatti both scoring inside the opening fifteen minutes. Piatti added a third goal in the eightieth minute to end any hopes of a comeback for the home side, but Dwyer did manage to pull one goal back in stoppage time to make the final score 3-1.

The recent head to head results between these two teams and their performances in the early stages of the new MLS season and their pre-season friendlies all point towards both teams scoring on Saturday, with Sporting KC as the favourites to claim all three points. Sporting KC have won four of the last seven meetings between the two clubs. with both teams have scoring in four of the last five encounters. Sporting KC have won their last four home games in all competitions, and both teams have scored in three of Sporting KC’s last five and each of Montreal Impact’s last three matches. Montreal Impact haven’t win in Kansas in any of their last four visits, and that coupled with all of the above is why we’re backing a home win on Saturday with both teams getting on the scoreboard. We’re convinced that if Sporting KC hadn’t still been involved in the Champions League then they would have picked up more than four points from their first three games of the season, and predict that they will go far in the 2019 MLS Cup.

Németh, Russell, and Ilie are all on one goal each in the MLS for Sporting KC this season, but we expect to see those two strikers (Russell and Németh) go on to reach double figures before the campaign comes to a close. Montreal Impact’s star player over the last four seasons, Piatti, is already on three goals for the new campaign, while teammate Taïder is on two. We’re confident that both teams will score on Saturday and that Sporting KC will pick up all three points, and have predicted a final score of 2-1. Sporting KC lead the head to head record between these two clubs and have a good home record in the MLS. Montreal Impact have looked good on the road this season, but did lose 2-1 in a recent trip to Houston. We’re expecting a close and competitive game this weekend, with the hosts just doing enough to pinch a win.
