Union Santa Fe vs San Lorenzo Predictions

Tuesday’s Superliga Argentina action sees Union de Santa Fe doing battle with San Lorenzo. The hosts will be looking to pick up their second home win of the new campaign against the uninspiring visitors.

Union secured continental football for the first time last season, finishing 10th in the Superliga and earning a spot in the Sudamericana. Having retained the services of boss Leonardo Madelon, El Tatengue look set for another strong campaign and will be looking to build on the 4 points they’ve collected from their opening 2 matches in this clash.

Union’s 1-0 home over Aldosivi continued their excellent home showings seen throughout last season and there’s no doubting the Estadio 15 de Abril is now one of the trickiest venues to travel to in Argentina. The hosts were the only team to finish last season with an unbeaten home record, winning 7 of the 13 games contested and having won their last 3 home league matches over this season and last, it’s fair to say confidence is running high coming into Tuesday’s game.

Meanwhile, San Lorenzo ended last season in third place but performances tailed off towards the end of the season and El Ciclon certainly do not look like finishing anywhere near that high this season.

A 3-1 home win over Nacional midweek in the Sudamericana does offer some promise and was the side’s best showing in months, but they were fortunate to even be in the position to contest said tie after losing both legs of their previous clash with minnows Deportes Temuco, only advancing due to the Chileans fielding an ineligible player.

San Lorenzo’s squad does not look as strong as fans of Argentine football are accustomed to seeing it and that’s been reflected thus far in the action we’ve seen, with draws to both Tigre and Lanus going down as disappointments.

Ultimately, with Union as strong as they are in front of their own fans and San Lorenzo in less than convincing shape, we like the look of backing the hosts to claim the three points at a more than reasonable price.

Having failed to win any of their last 6 away games, as well as losing 2 of the last 3 on the road, San Lorenzo really look up against it and they shouldn’t cause Union too many issues defensively, considering they’ve also failed to notch in 4 of their last 5 outings on the road. Union may be the smaller name of the two but there’s no doubting they have the ability to win this match and we can see them running out victorious by a 1-0 margin.
