USA Women vs Chile Women Predictions

USA could hardly have hoped for a better start to their time in France, though they need to be wary of complacency. It’s all well and good battering inferior opposition, but if Jill Ellis’ women don’t remain switched on, then their match-day one promise could soon fade. Fortunately, it appears that USWNT have been handed another straightforward task, which makes an upset seem highly unlikely.

There’s two ways we can look at Tuesday’s mauling of Thailand. Either USA are simply a very good side that took advantage of weak opposition, or they’ve turned up in better form than they’ve ever been and are now simply in a league of their own. Thailand are anything but a strong side, as we’re likely to see against Sweden before this match takes place, though there’s not another team in world football that would’ve put them to the sword like USA did.

In truth, Tuesday’s result has made this game somewhat unappealing from a betting point of view. USA would’ve been massive favourites anyway, though they’re now a ridiculously short price and rightly so. Despite only conceding late on, Chile barely put up a fight against Sweden, so the best team in the world should be capable of running riot against Juan Letelier’s women.

Chile really did flatter to deceive on match-day one. They may have only been beaten by two goals, but they barely got involved going forward, which is why they failed to register a shot on target. A total of just 0.18 expected goals for and 2.6 against shows that they were no match for a Swedish side that is still some way off the level of USA, so it’s very tough to see how the South Americans will do anything other than take a handsome beating in this game.

As touched on above, this certainly isn’t a game to get excited about from a betting point of view. One bet that does make slight appeal is ‘USA to Score Over 5.5 Goals’. Even after notching 13 times on Tuesday, six goals will take some scoring, but there’s no team more creative or more clinical than USA in women’s national football, while the confidence of Jill Ellis’ women will be sky-high right now.

Not only did USA look in devastating form last time out, but they battered Chile not that long ago. On that occasion, they only scored four, though they had the chance to score twice as many, so it would be no surprise if they ran riot on Sunday. After all, Chile, who recently conceded seven goals against Holland, are no strangers to receiving a battering.
