Vancouver Whitecaps vs New York Red Bulls Predictions

Vancouver Whitecaps have just two days to recover for Sunday’s MLS game at home to New York RB after being knocked-out of the Canadian Championship by Toronto on Thursday. The visitors have had a full week to prepare for this weekends game and that has to give in form Red Bulls the edge over Vancouver Whitecaps.

After drawing 2-2 in the 1st leg at home, Vancouver Whitecaps were soundly beaten by Toronto in the 2nd leg on Thursday and went out as 7-4 losers on aggregate. Altidore owed his teammates and the fans after he was sent-off in the earlier stages of Toronto’s defeat to New York City last weekend, and the former Sunderland striker did just that with a hat trick against Vancouver. Giovinco and Ricketts were also on target for the hosts, as second half Kamara and Shea goals for the visitors were cancelled out.

Vancouver Whitecaps had gone five games without defeat before their Canadian Championship exit, and with just two days to recover and prepare for the visit of New York RB, another defeat could soon follow. Kamara top scores for the hosts with ten league goals this season, while teammate Techera has chipped in with seven. Teenage star Davies will be aiming to add to his eight assists and five goals in the MLS this season, with this particular player destined to be a big star in the future.

Vancouver sit seventh in the Western Conference, just two points shy of the play-off places and will be aiming for a win that could take them back into the top six at the expense of Real Salt Lake this weekend.

With fifteen goals in the league alone this season, New York RB English striker Wright-Phillips continues to perform in front of goal for his side. Romero pulls the strings in midfield for the visitors and already has ten assists to his name this season.

New York RB could move to the top of the table with as little as a draw this weekend, as they sit a point behind Atlanta United and share the same goal difference of +22. Just one goal was needed for New York RB to take all three points from last weekends game against Chicago Fire, and a good job too, as this game was short on goalmouth action.

That man Wright-Phillips netted the games only goal in the fifty-fifth minute to wrap up a 1-0 win, despite Chicago Fire boasting 58% of the overall possession. You could count on one hand the number of shots on target from both sides in this game, which gives you an idea of how poor the play was in the final third at times.

Even when they have a bad game New York RB seem to be able to pick up a good result, and that is the true sign of a top side. Vancouver Whitecaps have picked up fourteen fewer points than New York RB this season and have a goal difference of -9, which pales in comparison to their guests +22.

We’re confident that New York RB will win on Sunday and that over 2.5 goals will be scored in the process. The visitors have beaten Vancouver Whitecaps in two of their last four meetings, and each of Vancouver’s last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals. New York RB have won five of their last six matches, and three of those six have produced over 2.5 goals, so we expect more of the same this weekend.
