Wales vs Spain Predictions

Wales are back in UEFA Nations League action next Tuesday, but they kick off their international break with a glamour friendly against Spain. The Welsh make the short trip to Dublin next week, but first they’re aiming to bounce back from a defeat with a win over the much improved Spaniards. Luis Enrique has made his mark on the side after just two games, which brought two victories and a ton of goals. Can they now continue that record during a British double header in October?

Wales are the first UK side to take on Spain this week, as England head to Seville on Monday to face the Spaniards once again. Wales should expect an experimental side from the 2010 World Cup winners, who are seemingly on course to return to their former glory. The Welsh will still face a stern test against one of the strongest squads in international football, and the hosts are coming off the back of a 2-0 loss to Denmark. They have three points from their opening two Nations League games, which makes next week’s visit to the Republic of Ireland crucial.

Spain are cruising towards the final four in the Nations League. They won their opening two games, scoring eight goals, and many are saying the Enrique has already galvanised the side which struggled in Russia. They are certainly playing a little more direct, but they’ve kept that signature passing style. Things are just a little more dynamic now, and the Spanish are providing more of a threat going forward, thanks to their newfound speedy style.

Wales will have a tough time dealing with that, especially given their limited exposure to top quality opposition. The Welsh have tended to avoid playing top sides. The only one of the world’s elite they’ve met since Euro 2016 was France, and that was almost a year ago. They were also top seeds in their World Cup qualifying group, so the Welsh haven’t been tested by an elite side in quite some time.

With Spain hitting six goals past Croatia, you have to be impressed with their attacking threat. Meanwhile, Wales have seen both teams score in their last five home friendlies, so we expect them to get forward and challenge this Spanish defence.
