West Ham United to Win

Reason for tip

West Ham have eight points from the last 12 available at the London Stadium and can make the most of home advantage against fellow strugglers Southampton, who have lost nine of their 14 Premier League trips.

West Ham United 2-0

Reason for tip

Each of West Ham’s last four home wins have been accompanied by clean sheets and Southampton have failed to score in three of their last four away outings, so a 2-0 win for the hosts appeals.

Declan Rice To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

West Ham’s Declan Rice as been making his presence felt in attack of late, having scored against Nottingham Forest as well as providing an assist against AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League. Rice scored for England over the international break and looks a good value scorer option ahead of Sunday’s game.

West Ham United vs Southampton Predictions

  • West Ham have won three of their last five home games, drawing the other two.
  • Saints have lost nine of their 14 league trips.
  • Southampton have scored just one goal in their last four away games.

Hammers host Saints in relegation six-pointer

West Ham and Southampton meet in the Premier League on Sunday in a crucial fixture in terms of the battle against the drop.

Saints sit rock bottom of the table and the international break perhaps came at the wrong time for them after a two-goal comeback to claim a 3-3 draw with Spurs last time out.

The Hammers are also in the relegation places ahead of the latest round of games, and with just four points separating Crystal Palace in 12th from Saints a win for either side on Sunday would be massive in terms of their respective bids to avoid the drop.

Home advantage key for Hammers

West Ham have managed to hit some form at home and that may ultimately prove the difference, both on Sunday and in their wider goal of avoiding the drop.

David Moyes’ men have two win and two draws from their last four home league fixtures, and they should be able to make the most of home advantage on Sunday.

Saints do tend to fare better on their travels than they do at home, with 13 of their 23 points coming on the road, but they have still lost nine of their 14 trips and could well be in line for another loss at West Ham.

Goals could be in short supply

Saints may have hit three against Spurs last time out at St Mary’s, but that was the exception rather than the rule and away from home they have found goals hard to come by.

Southampton have managed just one goal in their last four road games and as West Ham’s last four home wins have been accompanied by clean sheets a win for the hosts to nil appeals, so a 2-0 victory for West Ham looks a reasonable correct score prediction.

As an outside option, Declan Rice appeals as a potential anytime goalscorer after he registered his third international goal for England in the win over Italy last week.

The Hammers need their stars to step up as the fight for survival and Rice has been making his presence felt in attack of late, having scored against Nottingham Forest as well as providing an assist against AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League.
