Willem II vs Ajax Predictions

Ajax’s form heading into the KNVB Beker Final is excellent and their confidence is through the roof following their impressive run in the Champions League; and the only thing going against the favourites on Sunday is the fact they played in midweek and have the 2nd leg of the tie against Tottenham just three days after the Final. Willem II’s best chance of success on Sunday is if Ajax either rest some of their usual starting eleven or their players tire in the second half, because when they played host to Ajax last month they were thrashed 4-1.

Willem II were beaten 3-0 in their own backyard by PSV last weekend, but their players may have had one eye on Sunday’s Final. Goals from Malen and de Jong saw PSV lead 2-0 at the break, and another goal in the sixty-fifth minute from Bergwijn ended any hopes of a comeback from the hosts. A solitary strike from van de Beek in the fifteenth minute proved enough for Ajax to beat Tottenham Hotspur in London, but the Eredivisie leaders know that tie is anything but over and it will be interesting to see how the Dutch giants lineup against Willem II on Sunday.

The head to head record between these two clubs and the performances of both sides over the last month or so, suggests that both teams are in with a chance of scoring at that the match is likely to feature over 2.5 goals. Ajax are the obvious choice to win the game, and we are backing the favourites to win 3-2, but with the Final being sandwiched between their Champions League ties there is a chance Willem II could upset the odds. Five of the last seven meetings between these two clubs have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals, and Ajax have won the last six encounters. Three of Willem II’s last six and three of Ajax’s last five matches have also seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. Ajax have won their last five matches in all competitions, while Willem II lost at home to Ajax last month 4-1. Ajax have won the KNVB Beker 18 times, while Willem II have lifted the trophy 2 times, and that in itself could give Ajax the advantage they need as this is Willem II’s biggest game since claiming the KNVB Beker title back in 1963.

Avdijaj and Sol joint top score for Willem II in the KNVB Beker this season on four goals, but the Spaniard has since left the club. Ajax’s van de Beek has also scored four times in this competition, but is closely followed by Labyad who has chipped in with three goals. We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced in Sunday’s Final, and have predicted a 3-2 win for Ajax. The favourites have an excellent record against Willem II and both teams have been involved in high scoring games of late, but its Ajax that head into the Final as the clear form favourites.
