Yeovil Town vs Aston Villa Predictions

With all four of England’s professional leagues now back up and running, it is time for the cup competitions to get in among the action and this Tuesday sees the return of the League Cup. Taking the spot light on Sky Sports Football is the clash between a League Two side who had an excellent run in the FA Cup last season face off against a famous old club who are looking to reclaim their better days as Yeovil Town welcome Aston Villa to Huish Park.

The hosts have started their domestic campaign in pretty disappointing fashion as they opened up with a 1-0 defeat to recently relegated Bury and followed that up with a 2-2 draw with one of the title favourites, Mansfield Town. Although the Glovers only have one point on the board, they know that they have had a difficult start on paper but a cup competition often provides a good tonic when things are not going quite as well as they could be in the league.

Aston Villa have had a pretty turbulent summer after their bid to win a spot in the Premier League proved to be unsuccessful following their play-off final defeat to Fulham. With money issues prompting a take over, they did at least manage to retain the services of star player Jack Grealish. Villa have started the season well with back to back wins and this has been largely down to their ability to find the back of the net, but with plenty of goals being conceded at the other end, there is a great deal of opportunity for the opponents to stay in the game.

Given that the hosts have a pretty decent record in cup competitions and come into this match on the back of a decent result against Mansfield, we think that they will fancy their chances of giving their visitors a difficult game. This, combined with the way Villa’s first two games have gone and the likelihood of changes to their side, leads us to believe that backing both teams to score is the best way to go in this fixture.

We are not done there though, as we also think that there is further opportunity to profit in this fixture. Although the hosts should give their opposition plenty of trouble, they do usually come unstuck in the first round of this competition and with the strength of the visitors, we think combining our initial tip of both teams to score with an away win is an excellent way to increase the odds on offer.
