The Honda Classic takes place this week and after last week’s big win Racing Post golf expert Steve Palmer is back with another pair of each-way tips for the PGA Tour event.

Steve picked out a 60/1 winner last week as Chile’s Joaquin Niemann claimed a comfortable win at the Genesis Invitational, finishing two shots clear of his closest rivals having built up a huge lead over the first two rounds.

Read on to see who he thinks will impress at PGA National this week.

Honda Classic Each-Way Tips

Sungjae Im is a favourite who must be respected in this week’s Honda Classic – he won the tournament in 2020 and relishes the Florida Swing of the PGA Tour – but perhaps the juicier odds about Alexander Noren and Matt Jones are better options for the PGA National gathering.

Noren was a prolific winner of European Tour titles – he won ten times – and his last victory came in 2018. His focus more recently has been on becoming a PGA Tour champion – and the Honda Classic represents a golden opportunity for the 33/1 chance.

Noren lives only a 20-minute drive away from the PGA National venue, which has staged the Honda since 2007, and that course comfort showed when he finished third in the 2018 Honda. A bright start to this year suggests Noren can make an impact at PGA National again. He was sixth in the Phoenix Open the week before last.

Another price which catches the eye is the 45/1 about the defending champion – Matt Jones. The Australian did not just win the Honda last year – he destroyed the field by a five-shot margin. And that was not the first time Jones had shown a liking for PGA National – he finished fourth on his Honda debut in 2008 when he was ranked outside the world’s top 200.

Jones has shown enough this year to suggest he can be a major player in Florida again. He was in spectacular form over the weekend of the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, closing with rounds of 62 and 61, and last week he struck his ball superbly en route to 15th place in the Genesis Invitational. A closing round of 68 at Riviera on Sunday has sent Jones to the Honda with plenty of self-belief.
