Aberdeen vs Partick Predictions
Aberdeen’s winning streak came to a predictable end on Wednesday night as they lost 1-0 away to the dominant Celtic. This comes after five wins on the bounce in all competitions, and that record has pushed them to within two points of 2nd placed Rangers and they have a game in hand.
All things considered a 1-0 loss at Celtic Park isn’t an overly bad result for them, as nobody could have expected them to get anything from a Celtic side who have dropped just two points all season.
At home their league form is looking formidable too. They beat Dundee 3-0 last Friday to make it six wins, three draws, and just one defeat in their ten home matches in the Scottish Premiership. That defeat came against none other than Celtic, so Partick have every right to be worried about this clash.
The visitors lost 1-0 at home to St Johnstone in midweek to make it six defeats, four draws, and just two wins in their last 12 league games. Surprisingly their away form is actually pretty respectable though, with one win, three draws, and two defeats in their last six games on the road.
Partick’s league positioning may look respectable as well, but things can change quickly in their half of the Scottish Premiership. They sit 7th at the moment with just 23 points from their 23 games so far, and that leaves them just three points clear of the relegation playoff position in a league table that has just four points separating 6th from 11th.
Aberdeen’s main threat going forward this season has surprisingly been Niall McGinn rather than Adam Rooney. The midfielder has scored eight league goals this season and six of them have come at the Pittodrie Stadium, so backing him to find the net at 21/10 looks excellent value for our goalscorer predictions.
Partick have shown that they set up very defensively against the top teams in the Premiership though. This is illustrated by their away matches against Celtic, Hearts, Rangers, and Aberdeen. Just one of these ended with more than three goals scored, and against any team they have only seen three or more goals once in their last six away days. Aberdeen may have been flourishing going forward recently, but all of their high scoring matches came against sides with a poorer defensive record than Partick, so odds of 19/20 for Under 2.5 Goals looks a good value bet. I’m going for a 2-0 win for Aberdeen at 6/1 for my correct score predictions.
