Reason For Marseille vs Lille Predictions

Lille got their first win in six matches last week as they strolled past Bordeaux with a 3-0 win. Lille had been in a sticky patch prior to this match as they had been struggling in both the league and the Champions League but a tremendous performance from summer signing Yusuf Yazıcı helped them on their way as the Turk scored a goal and assisted two more along the way to his man of the match award. The win lifted Lille up to third and they’ll be looking to get another win here against a rather fragile Marseille side.

Despite a rather rough run of results in recent weeks, Lille fully deserve their third place standing as they have consistently been putting in great performances despite the lack of points. Lille have been the third best team at creating chances this season. This has been reflected by the fact that they’ve scored eleven goals in their last seven matches in all competitions. Lille need to tighten up their defence though as they have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches. Les Dogues will be the visitors for this game and that may pose a problem for Christophe Galtier’s men as they are still to win on the road and have been consistently creating less and conceding more chances when away from home.

Marseille suffered their third defeat in four games on Wednesday as they were beaten 2-1 by Monaco. Marseille only managed to score via an own goal and didn’t manage a single shot on target in what was a pretty woeful performance. Marseille have won just one of their last seven games and that was against relegation-threatened Strasbourg. They have been conceding lots and creating very little with nine goals conceded in their last four games.

There is a silver lining for Marseille ahead of this game though as they have been considerably better this season when playing at home. They are unbeaten in their last four matches at the Stade Velodrome (W2+D2) and have conceded the least chances of any team in Ligue 1 when playing in front of their own fans.

Marseille have scored in their last four home matches and we’re backing them to convert here again against a side that have just one clean sheet in their last six games. Lille are also very good going forward though and if Yusuf Yazıcı can put in another outstanding performance then Marseille could have a problem on their hands. Marseille have been very good at home but don’t look dangerous enough to win this match so we’re going to back a 1-1 draw. Both teams to score is also what we’re going to back as the market has won in six of Lille’s last eight games, five of Marseille’s last eight and in two of the last three clashes between these sides.
