Liverpool vs Fulham Predictions
- Liverpool have only won two of their last eight games.
- Both teams have scored in the last seven head-to-heads.
- Fulham have one clean sheet in their last 16 games.
Liverpool’s struggles go on
Liverpool’s disastrous campaign continued with a 2-0 humbling away to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
In reality, the Reds were lucky to keep PSG to a two-goal lead, losing the shot count 18-3 and seeing a couple of penalty decisions go their way.
Arne Slot set up in a back five in that game to avoid a hammering and it may be hard for his side to switch back to controlling the game as they host Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Fulham have a strong record against these opponents
The Cottagers are just five points behind the home side after a solid season, only the top five have won more games than Marco Silva’s men and they are in the mix for a European place.
They denied Liverpool in spectacular fashion in the reverse fixture, with a 97th-minute Harrison Reed wonderstrike cancelling out what had looked like the winner from Cody Gakpo in the 94th minute.
That continued a solid record for Fulham against these opponents, they have only lost one of the last five head-to-heads, and they could be facing them at the perfect time with the Reds just days away from the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Slot’s men look devoid of confidence having lost five of their last eight games and with the side out of the League Cup, FA Cup and adrift of Arsenal in their Premier League title defence, Europe is now their only slim chance of winning some silverware this season.
Things could go from bad to worse with Fulham fancied to at least avoid defeat at Anfield. The visitors will have freshened up with the three weeks off and have won two and drawn one of their last three away games.
They could be the latest team to take advantage of a drastically below par Liverpool side who may be tempted to make a change in the dugout sooner rather than later as the pressure mounts on manager Arne Slot.
Ekitike likely to lead the line
Games between these two teams have a habit of being entertaining, with both teams scoring in the last seven meetings between the pair, and the same is fancied this time around.
Two of the last three head-to-heads have finished 2-2 and a repeat of that looks a runner considering Liverpool’s defensive frailties.
At the other end of the pitch, Hugo Ekitike looks a tempting price to get on the scoresheet with Alexander Isak still being eased back in after injury. Ekitike has 17 goals in all competitions and could add to that tally.
