AC Milan vs Palermo Betting Tips

The latest edition of the great AC Milan still has some work to do to convince us that they are a serious contender in Serie A, or even a serious threat to Europa League places. There’s no shame in losing to Fiorentina or Inter Milan, and they’ve arguably one their “should-win” matchup beating Empoli at home. However, they’ll need to add to that tally when they host Palermo on Saturday night.

AC’s biggest challenge comes in a re-formulated midfield that just hasn’t looked right so far. Giacomo Bonaventura and Juraj Kucka formed a good partnership at the top of the diamond and controlled the pace and flow of the game better against Inter than Milan had managed in previous games.

Building off the game against Inter Milan won’t happen too easily though. They’ve got a match-up against a Palermo team that is unbeaten through three games, but did get held to a 2-2 by minnows Carpi last weekend.

Up until that game, Palermo had been playing a more traditional brand of Serie A football. Good in possession where possible and strong structure with men behind the ball when without the football. It fell apart against Carpi and it’ll be interesting to see whether anything is changed for the trip against Milan.

Three Reasons for Betting Tips

1. Palermo’s suffocation

They’re not going to play this game “fair”, they’re going to stifle AC Milan’s midfield and they are going to put pressure on a side that they know is desperate for a victory.

2. Set pieces

We’ve not been convinced by the chemistry for AC Milan so far and that has revealed itself in poor execution of set pieces at both ends of the field. Play from set positions has been something of a redemptive factor for Palermo this season and we think they’ll win that battle on Saturday.

3. Milan still juggling

AC has been juggling its line-up and the continuation of that on Saturday can only work in Palermo’s favour.
