AC Milan 2-1

Reason for tip

Venezia scored in the vast majority of their away games last season and are already up and running in terms of away goals after losing 3-1 at Lazio last month. Milan’s defensive structure and midfield vulnerability gives the visitors a great chance of bagging at the San Siro, but the Rossoneri should rise to the challenge and pull out all the stops for a 2-1 win.

Fonseca feels the heat in Milan

AC Milan cannot afford to slip up against Venezia at the San Siro – where the club’s private equity owner Gerry Cardinale will be in attendance for Saturday’s Serie A clash.

The wealthy American’s presence at the match ups the ante for the underperforming squad and coach Paulo Fonseca, who is already under pressure after Milan made their worst start to a campaign in 40 years.

The Rossoneri have displayed familiar failings in their matches this season and their prospects of turning it around will not be helped by the absence of midfielder Ismael Bennacer, which has made the midfield particularly vulnerable.

Venezia can score at the San Siro

Fonseca needs to address the defensive structure of a team that has conceded two or more goals in eight of their last 10 league games and all three this term.

Venezia are not big scorers themselves, but they could fashion some chances if this match is as open as some of Milan’s have been recently.

They will look to the returning Gianluca Busio, who scored seven goals in Serie B last term, to sniff out chances at the heart of a 3-4-2-1 system. The visitors from Venice can score – as they did at the Olimpico against Lazio and in all but six of their away games in the tier below last season.
