      SC Freiburg/SC Freiburg

      Reason for tip

Freiburg have a commanding 3-1 advantage over Motherwell when they meet at the Europa-Park Stadion and the German side are likely to be comfortable winners on home turf.

      SC Freiburg 4-0

      Reason for tip

It is difficult not to fear for Motherwell, who have to chase a 3-1 deficit in Germany, and are facing one of the strongest teams in the Conference League. At a big price, it could pay to take a 4-0 home win.

      SC Freiburg vs Motherwell Predictions

      • Freiburg have scored eight goals in their opening two matches of the season
      • Freiburg have recorded expected goals figures of 2.53 and 2.97 in the first two matches this term
      • Motherwell have scored only four goals in their last five matches

Steelmen unlikely to stand firm against classy rivals

Motherwell were dreaming of the Conference League when Regan Charles-Cook’s early strike gave them a 1-0 lead over Freiburg at Fir Park last week, but the tie was taken away from the Steelmen in a 3-1 loss and they now face an almost impossible task to qualify.

Freiburg had levelled the score earlier in the first half, but the red card shown to Motherwell centre-back Martin Moormann and subsequent red card saw the Germans draw clear of their spirited rivals.

Motherwell were done no favours by the draw in the first place, but ill-fortune offers no solace and the Steelmen could be heading for a heavy defeat at the Europa-Park Stadion.

Freiburg have started the campaign with a 3-1 Conference League success over Motherwell and a 5-1 hammering of Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The Breisgau Brazilians lost only one of their eight group stage matches in the Europa League last season and Julian Schuster’s side beat Genk, Celta Vigo and Braga in the knockout rounds of the competition, before falling to Aston Villa in the final.

Those efforts indicate the task facing Motherwell in Germany and Freiburg are taken for a wide-margin success on home turf.
