Champions League could take its toll on Ajax

Ajax produced one of the standout performances in the first matchdays of the Champions League when they went to Lisbon and thrashed Sporting 5-1.

Erik ten Haag’s side were good value for the victory and, having scored 13 goals in four Eredivisie matches so far, look to be very potent in attack.

Defensively, they are still yet to be properly tested as their four domestic opponents so far have collectively mustered just seven shots on target against the Dutch champions.

Whether Cambuur are up to the task remains to be seen, but the signs are promising from Henk de Jong’s men.

The Yellow-Blues are coming off a 5-2 home win over Go Ahead Eagles that takes their goals tally to nine in four games and they catch a break from the fixture list too with the hosts denied a full week of preparation.

Ajax conceded goals – and occasionally dropped points – in five of their seven most recent games when given a short turnaround, mainly during the latter stages of last season.

If there’s any Champions League hangover to be exploited, Cambuur could be the team to do it so we are taking them to score in their fifth Eredivisie game on the trot this Saturday.

Historically, the Leeuwarden side have not taken much from their trips to Amsterdam and Ajax’s recent home record is awesome.
