After notching a slender 2-1 win in ‘De Topper’ last time out at PSV, Ajax regained control of the title race, they will believe they belong at the top after scoring more and conceding less than anyone else, albeit spending a considerable amount of time in second place.

Five of the eight points that Ajax have dropped at home this season came across their last four home league games, though they will expect to be back on top in this game against relegation-threatened Heracles.

No more bogeys?

Fans across the Netherlands and beyond may be aware that Heracles are something of a bogey team for Ajax, managing to get a positive result in four of the last seven league meetings between the sides (W2, D2, L3).

Those four games won or drawn produced under 2.5 goals each time while the three defeats saw at least a two goal margin. Even though Heracles are the only side yet to win an away league game, they have only conceded 14 times (1.55 on average) in away league games and will hope to put in another relatively solid showing here.

All in all, I think Ajax will win this game by a handicap-busting scoreline, though given Heracles relatively respectable backline and the low-scoring recent history of this fixture, a low scoring 2-0 victory for the title chasers could be on the cards.
