Almeria vs Eibar Predictions
- Almeria are three points clear at the top, but have failed to win five of their last six in the Segunda.
- Eibar, who have lost only one of their last ten games in the league, can go level on points with the leaders if they win.
- Almeria are without key strikers Umar Sadiq (AFCON duty) and Dyego Souza (injured).
Opportunity knocks for Eibar to knock leaders off perch
Eibar can sense a chance to exploit a moment of weakness from long-time Segunda leaders Almeria and will be psyched up to return from Andalusia with all three points on Monday. Gaizka Garitano’s side are within three points of their hosts but bring much better form to the table for the clash at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.
Eibar are unbeaten in nine of their last 11 road trips and have sustained only one loss in their last ten overall. They got a fresh spark for this promotion push when coming from 2-0 down to claim a draw at Lugo in November and have since beaten seventh-placed Las Palmas and drawn with eighth-placed Real Oviedo away from home.
Beating the leaders in their home stadium would be a step up, but Almeria are out of form, confidence and available strikers right now. The Andalusians have been one of the teams hardest hit by COVID-19, and Rubi’s men are now without spearhead Umar Sadiq, who is at the AFCON Finals with Nigeria and his replacement Dyego Souza, who is injured.
Almeria lack a ‘reference point’ up front
Without a ‘reference point’ striker, Rubi has deployed Largie Ramazani as a false nine in recent games – of which Almeria have lost three of their last four and could only draw at Las Palmas.
Opportunity therefore is knocking hard for Eibar to take the game by the scruff off the neck, but a defensive approach from the leaders could frustrate them in their quest for all three points. However, the odds on the visitors avoiding defeat here look good enough to grab with two hands while we will also risk a smaller stake on the away win via a correct score bet.
None of Eibar’s four away wins this season have been by more than one goal and so, with Almeria still finding ways to score through this lean patch, our selection is for a 2-1 away win.
