Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Australia have hit nine goals at the World Cup and England have scored 10. Both of these sides will leave everything on the pitch on Wednesday and both have the talent in attack to make a breakthrough, so we’re expecting goals at both ends.

England Women 2-1

Reason for tip

England have grown into the tournament and can edge what should be a close game, but they have occasionally looked vulnerable at the back to a 2-1 win for the Lionesses appeals.

Australia Women vs England Women Predictions

  • Australia beat a strong England team 2-0 in a friendly in Brentford in April.
  • Australia have scored nine goals in normal time at the World Cup, England have hit 10.
  • England have conceded in two of their last three games.

Matildas stand in England’s way

England had to dig deep in their quarter-final win over Colombia to fight back and claim a 2-1 win and they may need to raise their levels further to take down co-hosts Australia in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Key player Lauren James remains suspended for the Lionesses, but they will still feel confident they can reach the final in her absence.

Both teams can strike

England have what looks to be the stronger squad, on paper at least, but the fact Australia benefit from home advantage in Sydney could have a big impact and both teams to score looks a good starting point for this last four game, rather than a result.

The Matildas have hit nine goals in normal time during the tournament and will feel they can hurt England after beating Sarina Wiegman’s side 2-0 in Brentford in April.

England have scored 10 goals in total but have conceded in two of their last three games, and perhaps rode their luck in a 0-0 draw with Nigeria in a game that required penalties.

England have grown into tournament

Both of these teams have perhaps improved as the competition has progressed but England have a bit more attacking talent and that could prove the difference between these two sides.

England dug deep to overcome Colombia 2-1 in the last round and they can beat Australia by the same scoreline. The Lionesses have only managed one win in the World Cup by more than one goal but they can edge a tight clash on Wednesday.

Alessia Russo scored her second goal of the tournament against Colombia and can add to her account against the Matildas.
