Villa can keep up the gallop

Aston Villa have come on leaps and bounds under Unai Emery and they can continue their progress when they visit AZ Alkmaar. The Villans have won four of their last six games and the only major blot on their copy book this season is a 3-2 defeat away to Legia Warsaw in the first game of the Europa Conference League group stages.

Emery’s men bounced back with a 1-0 victory over Zrinjski Mostar and should start transferring their domestic form to Europe.

Villa beat West Ham 4-1 at the weekend and have netted 12 times in their last four games, their ruthless attacking talent should make them too strong for their Dutch hosts.

AZ yet to hit domestic heights in Europe 

AZ Alkmaar have been one of the form sides in the Eredivisie this season, sitting second after winning eight and drawing one of their first nine matches.

However they have struggled to transfer that form to European competition and have only won one of their last four games in Europe.

They were beaten 4-3 by Zrinjski Mostar before edging Legia Warsaw 1-0 and those performances may not be enough against this Villa side.
