Athletic Bilbao vs Celta Vigo Predictions
- Both teams have scored in four of Athletic Club’s last seven home league games
- Both teams have scored in Celta Vigo’s last three away matches in La Liga
- Celta have scored two or more goals on three of their last four visits to Bilbao
Giraldez’s side can surprise at San Mames
Athletic Club could have their hands full with Celta Vigo when they entertain the Galician side in La Liga on Sunday afternoon.
Claudio Giraldez’s side have come flying out of the gates this season with an energy, flair and an unshakeable belief in themselves that is already earning them admiring glances from around Europe.
After beating Alaves and Valencia in back-to-back home games at the start of the campaign, Celta then lost at Villarreal and Osasuna – albeit in thrilling style with five goals scored across the two trips. They got back to winning ways at home to Real Valladolid last weekend and look ideally placed again to give it a go in Bilbao.
Key duo still out for Athletic Club
The Basques, who were pushed hard in a 2-0 midweek win at Leganes, will be without goalkeeper Unai Simón and defender Yeray Alvarez again. Midfielder Mikel Jauregizar is able to return from suspension and could come straight back into the side if Ernesto Valverde decides he needs fresh legs in the middle of the park.
Giraldez’s young side certainly don’t lack vitality and appear ready to run all day for the former B team coach, so Celta could provide a tougher test than the odds suggest.
Athletic Club have failed to win five of their last seven home La Liga games, so there is scope to back the visitors in the double chance market as both of their recent away losses were narrow. But both teams to score looks a sound bet in the circumstances too and given it has landed before the 30-minute mark in Celta’s last two away games, should be a more comfortable position to take too.
