Rayo Vallecano had an alarming run at the turn of the year that lasted for some months and saw them hurtling towards the relegation zone, but two wins in their last four show they have stabilised somewhat.

Andoni Iraola’s side still have a problem keeping clean sheets, managing just one in their last ten at home, where three of their last four games have also ended 1-1.

They are finding the back of the net more regularly though, netting in six of their last nine fixtures at all venues, with both teams scoring in four of those ties.

Villarreal need points in European quest

It looks like, despite reaching the semi-finals this season, Champions League football will elude Villarreal this year, and unless they can win here, even the Europa League might be off the cards.

Unai Emery’s side have had a real struggle lately, without a win in four in all competitions, while both teams have scored in six of their last eight.

Away from home they have managed just one clean sheet in nine, puzzlingly during a 3-0 hammering of Juventus, but it’s also four defeats in five on the road in the league, with both teams scoring in the last two.

I predict that both teams will score in this game, but I struggle to see Villarreal getting the win, so a 1-1 draw is my correct score prediction.
