Bayer Leverkusen vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions

Two of the Bundesliga’s top Mexican players and firm friends, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez (Bayer Leverkusen) and Marco Fabian (Eintracht Frankfurt), put friendship aside when they meet on the pitch at the BayArena on Saturday. Bayer Leverkusen come into this game as one of the top in-form sides in the league, having won the last four consecutive matches, beating local rivals FC Cologne 2-0 on their own turf last time out. “Chicharito” himself has been in fine form in that run – netting twice in the last two games, and has been ably assisted by 19 year old attacking midfielder Julian Brandt, who himself has scored in each of the last three games. Leverkusen, thus, find themselves having climbed up to fourth-place in the table, only one point behind third-place Hertha BSC and the coveted Champions League qualification spot.

For Eintracht Frankfurt, however, it is a completely different story. Frankfurt occupy seventeenth-place and are three points adrift of outright safety – they trail only one point behind the relegation play-off spot. The appointment of Niko Kovac as permanent head coach is yet to have the desired effect; the Croatian has led Frankfurt to only one win from his four matches in charge (W1 L3), and even that was only a 1-0 win against bottom of the table Hannover 96. To be fair to him and Frankfurt though, they have had a few crucial injuries to their important attacking players, for example that of veteran striker Alexander Meier (12 goals from 20 appearances) who has missed a chunk of this season.

Bayer Leverkusen against Eintracht Frankfurt is the most played Bundesliga fixture to never end 0-0 (61 times) so we should expect some action. Unfortunately for Frankfurt, who have won only once in their last 11 matches, they have been severely lacking goals while missing Meier to injury – he has scored 41% of Frankfurt’s goals this season, proportionally a league-high contribution. Frankfurt have only scored one goal in the last four matches under Kovac, in their 1-0 win at home to Hannover, and they have the worst away record in the Bundesliga (W2 D3 L9). Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, come into this match with joint top form in the league (along with Bayer Munich of course) having won the last four without conceding a goal. Expect this run to continue as Bayer Leverkusen home in on the Champions League qualification spot. Combining the analysis above with the statistics below, Bayer Leverkusen to win to nil and a result of Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 at 6/1 seem like solid bets for this match.
