Bounce back needed from Bayern

It has been a tough period for Bayern Munich after failing to win their last two games, both as overwhelming favourites as they usually are. A 4-2 defeat to lowly Bochum was followed up with a 1-1 draw against Austrian Salzburg in the Champions League, a result which may have pleased German ‘Red Bull’ fans.

Throughout thick and thin, the constant theme in Bayern games is goals, no side have kept them from scoring since last October, while they have found the net at least twice in 14 of the 17 competitive matches played since their DFB Pokal exit.

A second game against promoted opposition should provide a great chance for Bayern to bounce back as prior to their Bochum defeat, they had played 16 consecutive top-flight games against league newbies without defeat. Another shock defeat here would represent Bayern’s first back-to-back defeats against promoted sides since 1997, surely not!

Go Furth and prosper

While Furth will remain rooted to the foot of the table no matter what happens here, they are making a fist of their survival bid with a run of four unbeaten games across the last five (W2, D2, L1).

Facing Bayern is a different challenge altogether though, but even so, I predict over 3.5 goals in this game. Both sides are averaging a sizeable goal return in league action this term and it is tough to find value in a game with such a gulf in class as this.

For smaller stakes, I will stick with Bayern to bounce back with a commanding 4-1 victory as top welcome bottom in this David vs Goliath encounter.
