Besiktas vs Benfica Predictions

With just two group games remaining in the Champions League Group B can be seen as one of the most open in the competition. The top three teams are all vying for the top spot at the moment, and with just a point between them any one of them could top the pile at the end of proceedings on Wednesday.

Besiktas are currently the side in 3rd position, behind 2nd placed Napoli on goal difference but facing a home game against Benfica and a trip to bottom of the group Dynamo Kiev for their final match. They still have an excellent chance of making the knockout stages.

Saturday saw them beat Adanaspor 2-1 away from home to keep them top of the Turkish Super Lig. That victory made it seven wins, two draws, and one defeat in their last ten matches. Their singular defeat came in a friendly against AZ Alkmaar as well, so competitively they remain unbeaten in normal time this season. Their only outright failure was a penalty loss to Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Cup.

Turkish striker Cenk Tosun has been the man of the moment in the Super Lig with seven goals in 11 games, but he is yet to score in the Champions League. It fell to Vincent Aboubakar and Ricardo Quaresma to gain the points in Europe, but with goals in his last two matches, it’s only a matter of time before Tosun finds the net in Europe. I think he’s the best option for our anytime goalscorer predictions.

Benfica have their own European star to rely on as well. Eduardo Salvio has only scored two league goals this season, but he’s scored in three of his four Champions League matches to make him the top scorer across all competitions for Benfica. If you’re looking for a Benfica goalscorer prediction I think he’s the best option.

The visitors are in good form too, with a 6-0 hammering of Maritimo in the Taca de Portugal making it nine games unbeaten in all competitions, seven of which ended in victory.

Both of these sides are in pretty good form going forward at the moment and both will feel confident about bagging a goal or two. Besiktas have scored in all 18 of their matches this season but have conceded in 14 of them as well. Benfica have netted in all of their 18 matches as well but have conceded in half of them. Away from home they have conceded in six of their ten games as well.

This makes odds of 4/5 for a Both Teams to Score prediction look very good value, so that’s what I’m backing. As far as correct score predictions go I think it could be an even match, so I’m going for a 2-2 correct score prediction at 14/1 as well.
