Tip Reasoning

  • Millwall have drawn three of their last four away Championship matches.
  • The Lions are expected to still be without Jed Wallace and Scott Malone.
  • Birmingham City have not lost two consecutive home games this season.

Expect a reaction from Bowyer’s Blues

Millwall enter Saturday’s game against Birmingham City right back in the thick of the playoff hunt after a number of their rivals for the top six suffered nightmare Easter programmes. The Lions were lucky to pick up all three points against Hull on Monday, but results count for more than performances at this stage of the season.

That said, Birmingham boss Lee Bowyer is getting neither from his team, who lost their third straight league game in humiliating fashion at Blackpool. Troy Deeney, after making his first start since January, went over to apologise to the Blues’ away following after the 6-1 loss and most would expect some kind of reaction to events at Bloomfield Road when Millwall arrive at St Andrew’s.

The Lions are likely to still be without Jed Wallace and Scott Malone for this game and it might get a bit tricky for them if the home fans respond to a better effort from their team. Birmingham have not lost two consecutive home games this season and Lee Bowyer, despite recent results, feels some progress is being made – although clearly there’s much still to do.

Lions lack away goal power to justify favourite’s tag

Given Millwall’s general inability to put teams away when playing away from The New Den, a draw feels about right for this game. Gary Rowett’s men have won only three of their last 14 road games and can’t really be relied upon to score here – despite Birmingham’s abject recent defensive record.

The Londoners have failed to score in four of their last eight away contests and may have to settle for a 0-0 here if Birmingham put all their focus into addressing the defensive frailties on show at Blackpool and in the 4-2 Good Friday home defeat to Coventry City.
