Back against shaky pair

There should be goals at both ends when Blackpool host relegated Bristol Rovers in League One on Saturday. Just three sides in the division have netted more than Blackpool’s 68 goals this term, and both teams have scored in five of their last seven games.

Blackpool are ninth in League One, 13 places and 21 points above Bristol Rovers, with 16 wins, 16 draws and 13 defeats. Rovers have won 12, drawn seven and lost 26 of their 45 games this season.

Blackpool have enjoyed four straight League One victories against Bristol Rovers, but their recent form has been up and down, with two wins, one draw and three defeats in their last six games. For Rovers, these are tough times, with eight of the last nine matches ending in defeat and with that falling through the trapdoor into League Two.

Four of the last six League One meetings between these sides have seen both teams score. Blackpool won their most recent encounter 2-0, but the two games last season both ended with goals at both ends.

Neither side has been solid at the back. Blackpool have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last ten League One games, while Bristol Rovers have conceded 72 goals this season – an average of 1.60 goals against per game from 45 games.

A 3-1 home win is an appealing correct-score bet. There have been four goals or more in 13 of Bristol Rovers’ 45 League One matches this season, and Blackpool have won two of the last three meetings with Rovers by a two-goal margin.
