Boca Juniors vs Ldu Quito Predictions
Wednesday’s Copa Libertadores quarter final, second leg action sees Argentines Boca Juniors doing battle with Ecuadorians LDU Quito at La Bombonera. The hosts arrive all but into the semi finals after an excellent 3-0 win in last week’s first leg between the two.
Travelling to the gruelling altitude of Quito looked like being a big ask for Boca in the first leg, but the side more than stepped up to the task. Gustavo Alfaro’s men defended well and showed a ruthless cutting edge to run out 3-0 winners, a result that now has them well on the way to a potential showdown with arch rivals River Plate, who they lost the Libertadores final to last year.
Unbeaten in 8 competitive matches, Boca are looking a real force and there’s a real belief around the club that they can claim their first Libertadores crown since 2007. Having won all 4 of their Libertadores home games so far this year and 8 of their last 9 overall, El Xeneize arrive for Wednesday’s game supremely confident and will be fully assured in their ability to secure their passage in style.
Meanwhile, if LDU Quito were to have any realistic hope of causing an upset in this tie, they simply had to pick up a positive result in the first leg and having failed to do so, it’s now all but a damage limitation operation in Buenos Aires. The Ecuadorians simply didn’t turn up to the first game between the two and lost their heads in it, picking up two red cards.
Without a win in over 10 years on the road in the Libertadores, it’s fair to say a comeback can be ruled out. Indeed, LDU are typically a very weak outfit once their home high altitude is taken away and that’s something more than evidenced by defeats in 6 of their last 9 trips in the competition.
Ultimately, this is a match Boca should be winning at a canter and it’s hard to see them not doing so. Man for man, they are much stronger than LDU in all areas of the pitch and you do have to feel for the hosts on Wednesday’s night, given the manner in which they lost, even with the benefit of home advantage.
All things considered, backing Boca to win to nil looks the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do. They’ve conceded just 1 goal in their last 8 matches and with LDU likely to play in a defensive manner, that’s not a streak that looks set to end, with a routine 2-0 home victory on the cards.
