A loss to Kairat in the second leg of their tie saw them progress thanks to away goals, and then they finally managed to get a victory in the league with a 2-0 win over Nantes.

It seemed that their fortunes were finally turning around, and they continued it with an impressive 2-2 draw in the French capital when they played Paris Saint Germain.

Liverpool have had it the other way round. They began the season with back to back victories against Stoke and Bournemouth, although their 1-0 wins weren’t entirely convincing.

Bordeaux seem to be the team in the ascendancy here, with Liverpool coming into this game on the back of two heavy defeats that will hurt a lot.
