Bournemouth vs Southampton Predictions
Bournemouth managed another excellent result in midweek as they beat Leicester 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium to bounce back from their weekend defeat at Burnley. This makes it three wins and two defeats from their last five matches, with that including the spectacular comeback as they beat Liverpool 4-3.
Overall it’s been a vastly improved season for Bournemouth so far as they look to avoid relegation again. They currently lie in 10th position in the Premier League, nine points clear of the relegation zone and only two points off 7th position.
At home things look even better for Bournemouth. They have won five, drawn one, and lost two of their eight Premier League games at the Vitality Stadium, and as such they will feel confident going into this south coast derby.
There are a few issues for neutrals looking forward to this game though. Callum Wilson and Junior Stanislas are both expected to miss this game, and they are the two top scorers on the Bournemouth side of the fence. Southampton are struggling as well with Charlie Austin ruled out until April with a shoulder injury. He is their standout player, and they will now have to rely on Nathan Redmond, who is the only other Southampton player with more than one goal to his name.
This lack of strikeforce was blindingly obvious in midweek as Southampton failed to score past a Stoke side who played almost 70 minutes with ten men. It was a dour goalless draw in the end, and Claude Puel will be glad of the fact the January transfer window is just around the corner.
Southampton’s draw in midweek made it three wins, three draws, and three defeats in their last nine matches in all competitions. Their Premier League record is very similar, but their away form starts to look worrying for the Saints. They have won just one of their eight away days in the Premier League this season, losing four and drawing the remaining three.
Despite this contrast in forms, the bookies are still favouring the visitors for this one. That means value for us, and backing a Bournemouth 0.0 Asian Handicap Win at 2.075 is an excellent backing. I’m going for a 1-0 correct score predictions at 15/2 as well.
