Union can shut out St Pauli

Union Berlin are the best bet to beat St Pauli at home on Sunday. The visitors have lost five times in their last six away games in the Bundesliga.

Both teams have lost more games than they’ve won this season, but Union Berlin are nine places above St Pauli in the table. Union sit ninth with eight wins and 12 defeats, while St Pauli are 16th with six wins and 15 losses.

St Pauli’s Danel Sinani opened the scoring in the 24th minute, but they were beaten 2-1 by SC Freiburg in a tightly contested game two weeks ago and could not break their losing run. They were priced at 17/10 to win the game.

The visitors are enduring a difficult run of results, with St Pauli having gone three games without recording a victory. Their last two Bundesliga games have both ended in defeat.

They lack killer instinct in front of goal. St Pauli have been disappointing away from home this season, scoring just 10 goals in 14 games – an average of 0.71 goals a game. No team has failed to score in more Bundesliga games this season than St Pauli (11 in 27).

The visitors have looked vulnerable at the back. St Pauli have failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of their last nine Bundesliga games.

A 2-0 win for Union Berlin looks a decent correct-score option. Three of St Pauli’s last four Bundesliga matches have produced under 2.5 goals and they have suffered three 2-0 losses in the league this season.
