Braga vs Feyenoord Predictions
- Both teams have scored in four of Braga’s last five games
- Both teams have scored in three of Feyenoord’s four away matches this season
- At least three goals were scored in six of Braga’s eight Europa League league phase matches last season and all eight of Feyenoord’s in the Champions League
Ex-Man City assistant faces RVP test
Braga and Feyenoord begin their Europa League campaigns on Wednesday and both clubs will have designs on reaching the knockout stages. Braga missed out by a whisker last season after finishing 25th in the League phase, level in points with three clubs that scraped through to the play-off round on goal difference.
Feyenoord were mixing it with Europe’s elite in the Champions League, where they finished 19th in the table and went out to Inter Milan in the last 16 after knocking out their city rivals in the knockout round play-offs.
There have been significant changes to the playing squads and coaching staff at both clubs since then with ex-Manchester City assistant Carlos Vicens now in the Braga dugout and Robin van Persie fully settled into the Feyenoord job after his February appointment.
Both teams to score at The Quarry
The Dutch team are in better domestic form and may be a bit of value to take all three points from the game, particularly as Braga have not impressed in their last two matches. The Arsenalistas conceded one goal in Vicens’ opening seven games at the helm but he is coming under pressure after a home defeat to Gil Vicente and a draw in the Minho derby where Braga were hanging on against Vitoria Guimaraes.
Both Tondela and Alverca blew plenty of good chances to score in Braga’s 3-0 wins earlier this season, leading to the conclusion that they have been getting away with some ordinary defensive displays.
Feyenoord, who have scored two or more goals in their last four away games, should get on the scoresheet at The Quarry. Both teams to score looks likely to come in given the defensive frailty the Rotterdam side showed against AZ in a 3-3 draw at the weekend.
