- Brazil are unbeaten in four fixtures under Dorival Junior
- The last three meetings saw Brazil win while keeping a clean sheet
Samba Stars can open with edgy win
Brazil get their Copa America campaign off and running against Costa Rica in the small hours of tomorrow and the pressure is already on for the nine-time champions who have struggled in competitive matches recently.
The Selecao are languishing sixth in World Cup qualifying after six rounds of matches and they have won just twice while losing on three occasions.
Interim boss Fernando Diniz was relieved of his duties due to the slump in form and his replacement Dorival Junior has overseen an upturn in fortunes since taking over in January, and we predict things to improve further for them this week.
The Samba Stars are unbeaten in four friendly matches under Junior with a 1-0 win over England followed by a 3-3 draw with Spain, a 3-2 success over Mexico and a 1-1 draw with USA earlier this month.
Things will need to improve further if they are to win their tenth Copa crown and they have already seen bitter rivals and tournament favourites Argentina make a winning start to the competition.
Brazil are a short price to win this opening fixture and they have a good record against the Costa Ricans having won the pair’s last nine encounters, while the most recent three have also come with clean sheets.
Goal unlikely to flow in Los Angeles
Goals have flowed in Brazil’s build up to this American adventure but a cagey affair is predicted at the SoFi Stadium in LA tomorrow morning.
Three of the opening four matches in the finals featured fewer than three goals and Los Ticos will go all out to frustrate their illustrious rivals.
Gustavo Alfaro’s side have made a strong to World Cup qualifying, winning their opening two Concacaf section matches by an aggregate 7-0, so they will enter this fixture in good spirits.
However, they are 18-1 to stun the South American giants and the step up in class is likely to catch them out, but they are unlikely to be on the end of a hiding at such an early stage of the competition.
Our prediction if for Brazil to open up their Copa quest with a win and a 2-0 scoreline looks the way to go for those looking for a correct-score wager.
