Brentford vs QPR Predictions
This is a big game but perhaps matters more for fans of Brentford than QPR, who look upon the likes of Chelsea and Fulham as their main rivals. It is not a frequently played fixture with the last meeting taking place in 2004 but that should only add to the intensity of the Griffin Park atmosphere on Friday.
The fact that Brentford come into the game as pretty clear favourites with the bookies, tells you all you need to know about how QPR’s season is going. The pressure is on Chris Ramsey who has already seen his side lose 4-0 at Fulham in a West London derby this season.
They were 3-0 winners at home to MK Dons last time out but are still 5 points off the play-off places and now just 2 points ahead of Brentford, who are on a roll under new boss Lee Carsley.
The former Everton midfielder has led the Bees to 3 straight wins including impressive victories on the road at Wolves and Charlton coming into this game. They won 3-0 at the Valley and are once again looking a real danger in the final third and have restored some of the confidence they had built up under Mark Warburton last season.
Goals seem a certainty in this fixture. There have been over 2.5 goals in 15 of the last 16 Championship matches at Griffin Park. Games involving Brentford this season average out at 3 goals per game, while the figure is even higher for QPR who have the joint best goalscoring record with 22 but they’ve also conceded exactly the same number.
Therefore backing there to be over 2.5 goals in this game at 8/11 looks like a safe bet.
Brentford are on fire at the moment and will be really pysched up for a rare chance to get one over on their bitter West London rivals. QPR have some good players still but might not be suited to a blood and thunder derby and at 8/1 the hosts are worth backing to edge it 2-1.
