Bristol City vs Reading Predictions

  • Bristol City have won five of their last eight home Championship matches, three with over 2.5 goals in the game.
  • Reading have lost their last four away matches, three with over 2.5 goals in the game.
  • Reading have lost their last five Championship matches, four with over 2.5 goals in the game.

Bristol City should see off reeling Royals

Bristol City can take a significant step to safety by beating a beleaguered Reading on Wednesday with a few goals likely to be registered at Ashton Gate.

The Robins have taken 16 points from their last eight home games – in stark contrast to two points in their last eight aways – to move 14 points clear of the drop zone. They have done it in quite an entertaining way too as plenty of goals have been scored at both ends in Bristol.

Nigel Pearson’s side have won their last two home games 3-2, coming from behind to beat both Millwall and Cardiff. Reading’s porous defence shouldn’t be a problem for them on Wednesday, but the Royals are also likely to breach a pretty inconsistent City defence too.

Robins’ home record tips the balance

Reading have lost their last five Championship matches, four with over 2.5 goals in the game, and are coming off their worst away display of the season – a 4-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers. Veljko Paunovic would have been sacked long ago by most of the rest of the division, but the circumstances at Select Car Leasing Stadium dictate he remains in place for now.

A dismal transfer window has left the Royals with little hope and they must pray that none of the current bottom three can improve enough to displace them. They look like fodder for the Robins this week, albeit they were poor at Blackpool on Saturday too.

Our respect for Bristol City’s recent home record, which includes good wins over Derby and Stoke, is the deciding factor in picking the hosts to win this one with at least three goals scored. As Reading have only twice scored multiple road goals in their last ten and the hosts have hit six in their last two at home, a 3-1 scoreline offers good value in correct score betting.
