Preston vs Wolves Predictions

Wolves appointed Paul Lambert to replace Walter Zenga a fortnight ago and the former Villa and Norwich boss will be hoping for a bright start here. He inherits a side in poor form though. Wolves have collected just 2 points from their last 7 league games to fall down the league. They still have a number of important players sidelined with long-term term injuries and the new arrivals haven’t really gelled as quickly as Wolves fans would’ve hoped. Lambert has a big job on his hands to get things back on track and this is a tough opening fixture.

Preston have lost just 1 of their last 8 Championship games and that was against leaders and strong title favourites Newcastle. They’ve put in a few dominant displays though, particularly at Deepdale where they’d won 4 league games in a row prior to the visit of the Magpies. Good results on the road at Brighton and Norwich in recent matches also point to the fact that Preston are a very useful and often under-rated side.

They out-performed Wolves in the league last term and are doing the same again this and with them in much better current form, it’s perhaps hard to understand why Preston aren’t clearer favourites with the bookies here. They’ve kept clean sheets in 38% of their home matches this season and with the odd exception, are generally tough to break down under Simon Grayson. They are looking more threatening at the other end though this season which is perhaps a little surprising given they sold key forward Joe Garner to Rangers in the summer. Jordan Hugill has grabbed his chance up front though with 5 goals in 10 league starts this term and you can back Hugill to score anytime at 12/5 here.

With Preston in really good form and Wolves struggling, a home win looks the more likely outcome here despite the arrival of Paul Lambert for the visitors, therefore backing Preston Draw No Bet at 4/6 looks a solid bet for this one.
