Caen vs Bordeaux Predictions
Caen currently sit 18th in the relegation play-off spot but are still in with a chance of automatic safety if they can beat Bordeaux here and Amiens lose. That outcome is quite slim as Amiens will host the league’s bottom club Guingamp but nevertheless Caen will be desperate to win to send them into the play-offs in good form.
They have generally been playing rather well over the last month but a bad loss last weekend has scuppered the momentum they were picking up. They had won three and drawn one of their four matches before they travelled to Lyon but Bruno Genesio’s men ripped them apart, beating Caen 4-0. This was a big opportunity for Caen to jump out of the relegation zone but the defeat means that it will go down to the final day. Caen have scored five goals in their last five games though with three clean sheets along the way so should go into this match against a poor Bordeaux side with the upmost confidence that they can win.
Bordeaux have been, as the French say, terrible this season with three different managers failing to bring them any sort of consistency over the campaign. Paolo Sousa is the current manager but the ex-Leicester man has hardly shown his quality so far, as les Girondins are currently on a run of six straight defeats. Despite a rather strong squad with quality at both ends of the pitch, they just haven’t been able to click this season and will be eager to see the back of this campaign as they look destined to finish either 14th or 15th, a severe dip compared to last year’s 6th place finish.
They have conceded eleven goals in their last six games, failing to score in four of those and even rather average/out-of-form teams like Reims (0-1) and Angers (0-1) have managed to beat them in recent weeks. Bordeaux have lost twelve of their last 18 games with just three clean sheets kept in that time and with them holding the 2nd worst away record in the league, it could get messy here.
The motivation of survival should be enough to get Caen the three points here, as has been the case in their recent wins. Bordeaux don’t seem capable of getting a win from anywhere and with no goals scored in their last three games, we’re backing the home side to get the victory here 1-0.
