Venezia looking to extend Cagliari’s winless streak

Cagliari and Venezia have both endured tough starts to the season and Friday’s meeting at the Sardegna Arena may well be an early relegation six-pointer in Italy’s Serie A.

The hosts are still seeking a first win of the season after two draws and four defeats, while Venezia have four points on the board (W1, D1, L4) and both teams find themselves in the bottom three.

Cagliari have arguably had the tougher games and have faced Napoli, Lazio and AC Milan already. Venezia have also played Milan and Napoli, but did pick up a point against Torino last time out.

Venezia are just about in the better form of the two sides with all four of their points coming in their last four games and as such a bet on the visitors in the double chance market (win or draw) takes my fancy here. Cagliari picked up a point against another poor side, Spezia, in their home opener and have since lost twice to Genoa and Empoli. The Gli Isolani were also poor at home last season, losing 10 of 19 games, and their form in Sardinia already looks a worry in these early stages of the new campaign.

I Lagunari are the big underdogs here and it may pay to be brave in the correct score market, with a 1-0 win for the visitors looking worth the risk in this match-up.
