Cardiff vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

Cardiff ended 2018 in excellent fashion on Saturday as they picked up their first away win of the Premier League season against Leicester, a result that leaves them 3 points clear of the relegation zone and high on confidence going into the new year.

The pre-season relegation candidates were all but written off at the start of the campaign, and things looked even more ominous for them after they failed to win their opening 8 matches. Since then they have finally found their footing and started to put together a good run of form.

The Bluebirds have won 5 times in their last 12 games and significantly boosted their hopes of survival, and it’s their record at the Cardiff City Stadium that’s really impressing. They have won 4 of their last 6 matches there, although as of yet they haven’t picked up any points against the bigger opposition, which will be a worry for Tuesday.

Tottenham are reeling from their last match of 2018 though. Spurs looked set to extend their winning streak to 6 Premier League matches and put the pressure on Liverpool, but they let a 1-0 lead slip in the space of 15 second half minutes. The final whistle went with the scoreline 3-1 to the visiting Wolves, putting an abrupt halt to the festive celebrations at Wembley.

Prior to that, Spurs looked the most likely contenders at the top of the table. They had thrashed Everton and Bournemouth either side of Christmas Day, scoring 11 goals across the 2 games and looking every bit title challengers. Their capitulation against Wolves casts a serious shadow of doubt over that assessment though.

That defeat and Liverpool and Manchester City’s subsequent victories have shunted Spurs down to 3rd in the table, with them now lagging 9 points behind the leaders. They will be fairly confident of returning to winning ways on New Year’s Day though after winning 7 of their last 8 away matches in the league.

Spurs’ major issue does seem to be at the back. They have conceded in 7 of their last 11 Premier League games and have shipped 5 goals in their last 3 outings. Cardiff, meanwhile, have scored in 7 of their 10 home games this season and haven’t failed to find the net at the Cardiff City Stadium since the start of November. For this reason, we like the look of Both Teams to Score along with a 2-1 win for the visitors.
