Celtic vs Inverness CT Predictions

Celtic’s hopes of qualifying from their incredibly tough Champions League group all but disappeared on Tuesday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Monchengladbach. They now sit bottom of their group with a five point disadvantage on 2nd placed Manchester City, meaning they need to beat both Manchester City and Barcelona and hope that all the other results go for them as well. Very unlikely.

Their best hope of European success now is to get a result against either Barcelona or Manchester City and hope that they can leapfrog Monchengladbach into 3rd position, sending them through to the Europa League knockouts. Even this seems awfully unlikely though, so I expect Brendan Rodgers will have to settle for domestic success.

That domestic success looks all but guaranteed to happen as well. They have won their last seven domestic games and now find themselves in the League Cup Final and leading the Scottish Premiership by nine points already.

Recently Celtic’s defence has bolstered itself and started keeping clean sheets, but prior to that it was down to their attack to outscore the opposition. The main driving force has turned out to be young starlet Moussa Dembele. The 20 year old forward has scored seven league goals in seven starts and added a further four in the League Cup and five in the Champions League to take his tally to an incredibly 16 goals in all competitions. He is a definite favourite to score anytime at 4/6 with bet365.

Inverness CT managed to get a point at home to Hearts last weekend, but after being two goals up in the first half , they will be disappointed not to be looking back on three points well earned. That 3-3 draw made it six goals in two matches for them though, and they have looked like a much improved side recently.

The visitors have only lost one of their last nine matches in the Premiership, including holding Celtic to a draw at home and getting a point from Aberdeen. However, a trip to Glasgow is a much more difficult prospect, especially with Celtic in such excellent domestic form.

Away from home Inverness CT have only scored six goals in their last six matches, and three of them came against the out of form Motherwell last week. Celtic, on the other hand, have kept five clean sheets in a row in domestic competitions, winning all of them. This makes odds of 5/6 for Celtic to Win to Nil look a good value bet, so I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score prediction at 11/2.
