Celtic vs St Mirren Predictions
- Celtic won 29 of their 38 Premiership games last season.
- Celtic conceded in each of their final five games last term.
- St Mirren have scored in their last two games against Celtic (D1, L1).
Celtic start title defence against Buddies
Celtic begin the new Premiership season the same way they finished the last – with a game against St Mirren at Parkhead.
The Buddies claimed a 1-1 draw in Glasgow when they visited this venue in May but it is worth noting that by that point Celtic had already secured the title and they had a cup final to prepare for.
The Bhoys’ season did end on a sour note as they lost the Scottish FA Cup final to Aberdeen but they should be able to kick off their league defence with three points on Sunday.
Unsurprisingly, Celtic are the massive favourites to win so the task is finding a value option to back the champions and a home win with both teams to score looks the play here.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had comfortably the best defence in the Premiership last season but they did concede in each of their final five games, while they have also conceded in four of their last six friendly games.
St Mirren have scored in each of their last two games against Celtic, hitting three goals in total, and they have hit 12 goals across their last three League Cup games so they should at least be able to get on the scoresheet on Sunday.
A St Mirren goal is expected but Celtic should still win reasonably comfortably and a 3-1 home win is the correct score pick, as the Glasgow giants scored on average just over three goals per-game at home in the league last season.
Yang Hyun-jun has enjoyed a fairly productive pre-season with a couple of goals. The South Korean scored twice in Celtic’s win at St Mirren back in March and looks a contender for an anytime effort on Sunday.
