Charlton Athletic vs Blackburn Betting Tips

August must seem a long time ago for Addicks fans after another desperate couple of weeks. They come into this game after three successive defeats, all away from home and all deeply worrying for different reasons. Their FA Cup defeat to lower league Colchester was followed by a 5-0 mauling at Huddersfield which saw them re-install former boss Jose Riga as manager.

However they went one worse in his first game by going down to a 6-0 defeat at Hull City. Riga will at least have had a full week to work with his players ahead of this game though and in fairness Charlton have at least managed to avoid defeat in 3 of their last 4 home games although they really need wins to get themselves out of the mess they find themselves in.

There is little chance of them conceding 5 or 6 on Saturday against a Blackburn side that have only scored 1 goal in their last 6 league matches, picking up just 2 points from those games. They were winners in the FA Cup at Newport on Monday but rumours they are about to sell star striker Jordan Rhodes adds to concerns that they could be dragged into the relegation mire.

They are favourites to win this but just don’t look threatening enough to suggest that even against a defence like Charltons they are going to create many chances. Charlton will be determined to prove a point back in front of their own fans and in front of their new manager so backing Charlton to avoid defeat at 5/6 looks to be the better value here.

Blackburn don’t concede many though so It’s hard to see many goals in this one and it may be worth backing a scrappy 0-0 draw at odds of 15/2.
