Charlton vs Bristol City Predictions

  • The Addicks are aiming to turn around an 11-game run without a victory.
  • Bristol City are conceding too many goals, without a clean sheet in 6.
  • The Robins have conceded in 92% of their away trips.
  • Charlton have drawn 2-2 on 6 occasions this season, having drawn 7 games overall.

Charlton’s Problems Continue

Will Charlton finally end their long wait for a victory? The Addicks are on an 11-game stretch without success, thanks to a late goal from QPR in a 2-2 draw at the weekend. Now they are going up against a Bristol City side who have their own issues, with the Robins making this trip to the Valley following three straight defeats.

Those losses have left Bristol City outside of the top six, with their playoffs their aim this season. Charlton fell from the top six race long ago after a strong start, but now Lee Bowyer’s men are worried about relegation thanks to a torrid run of results. Can they turn things around for the visit of Bristol City?

Unreliant Robins

For much of the season we’ve reserved praise for Bristol City, a side who seemed to have addressed their consistency from last season. However, the Robins have lost three games on the spin to dent their chances of making the playoffs. It was these poor runs last season which caused problems for Lee Johnson’s side.

This term we could see something similar, especially with the visitors conceding too many goals. The Robins let in five in their three-game losing run, while they’re without a clean sheet in six Championship matches. Conceding 33 times in 22 games isn’t a great return, which should worry the visitors as they head to the Valley.

Addicks on the Attack

Meanwhile, Charlton are coming into this clash having scored twice in each of their last two matches. They put two past QPR on Saturday with forward Lyle Taylor back among the goals. Since the start of last season, Taylor has been directly involved in 40 league goals (28 goals, 12 assists), 12 more than any other Charlton player. He should prey on a Bristol City side who have conceded in 92% of their trips.

However, the visitors are scoring 1.5 goals per game this season, scoring in 11 of their 13 away trips in all competitions. That’s seen both teams score in 75% of the Robins’ trips, while Charlton are looking good up front and wide open at the back, with one clean sheet in 14 games. After that form, we’re backing both teams to score here.

The hosts have already seen six 2-2 draws this season, while Bristol City have avoided defeat in 75% of their away games. We think both sides could use the point following their recent form, so we’re backing them to share the spoils in another 2-2 draw.
