Cheltenham vs Sunderland Predictions
- Cheltenham have drawn five of their last six matches
- Sunderland have won one of their last six
- The reverse fixture holds little relevance given both sides recent plights
Both sides in desperate need of the points
Both sides are in need of points for very contrasting reasons. Too many draws lately have seen Cheltenham be sucked into a relegation battle, which seemed unlikely following an impressive start to their season. The Robins now sit just four points above the drop zone. Sunderland were odds on for a return to the Championship just a month ago. Things have quickly taken a turn for the worst as their form has nosedived. The Black Cats are at risk of dropping out of the top six if they do not address their slump soon.
The reverse fixture unlikely to give many clues
When looking for clues in this one, the reverse fixture at The Stadium of Light is likely to hold little relevance given both team’s recent struggles. Sunderland thrashed Cheltenham 5-0 in the reverse fixture but come into this game on a very different run of form to what they were on back in September. Tuesday’s hosts Cheltenham are finding it hard to win games of late, they have drawn five of their last six matches.
My main prediction in this game will be a draw. It’s hard to make a case for either of these sides given their recent plights. Cheltenham have drawn five of their last six matches, whilst Sunderland have drawn three of their last six away games. I will go for a 1-1 draw as my correct score play.
