      Colombia vs Peru Predictions

Both managers will be more concerned about the World Cup qualifying clash between these sides next month so this game could resemble something of a chess match with neither side wanting to give too much away.

Colombia have left out half of their Copa America squad with Juan Cuadrado and Radamel Falcao among 11 players to have been given a fortnight’s rest. Whatever the result here, they’ll be confident they can secure the points when they recall numerous senior figures for the competitive clash in Barranquilla next month.

With difficult qualifying games away to Uruguay and Chile and a home game with Argentina to come before Christmas, coach José Pékerman has perhaps rightly prioritised those matches and even the likes of James Rodriguez, Carlos Sanchez and Cristián Zapata, who have been called up, are unlikely to play the full 90 minutes.

That may open the door for Peru who will be hungry to show again that they can mix it with a highly rated Colombian side, but one that has failed to deliver of late. Peru led USA 1-0 away from home on Saturday for much of the game but eventually were beaten 2-1. Having also had a highly encouraging Copa America campaign, where they claimed 3rd place they will be keen not to lose any of that momentum with World Cup qualifying just around the corner.

Peru have named their strongest possible squad and are likely to be the more motivated side, which can make all the difference in friendly matches. There is certainly value in backing them to get a result here at 5/4 as they did when the sides met at Copa America just 2 months ago.

Colombia have been far from convincing in front of goal in recent weeks, having netted just twice in 5 matches coming into this one and this isn’t likely to be a high scoring or particularly interesting game either with a competitive game between the pair so close. Peru’s extra experience and motivation could just be enough to secure the win though and they can be backed to nick it 1-0 at 9/1.
