Expect an Argentine reaction

Egypt managed to hold pre-tournament favourites Spain to a 0-0 draw in their opener at the Olympics and will need another big performance to get a result against Argentina.

Argentina were stunned by Australia in their tournament opener as the Olyroos pulled off a shock 2-0 win.  The South Americans fell behind to an early goal, then had defender Francisco Ortega sent off just before the interval and conceded late on.

However, La Albiceleste were on top for much of the first half but lacked a cutting edge as they managed just one of their six shots on target.  Despite their numerical disadvantage after the restart, Argentina still had more of the ball that the Aussies and we may well see a reaction from Fernando Batista’s men as they bid to keep their Olympic dream alive.

Egypt may have kept a clean sheet against Spain but they rode their luck at times as La Rojita managed 10 attempts on goal, with five on target, to the Pharaohs’ three.  If Argentina can keep their all 11 men on the pitch on Sunday, they should be able to create plenty of chances in this match-up and we’re expecting them to get off the mark and pick up their first points with a victory.

Egypt will set up to defend, as they did against Spain, and it may take a while for the deadlock to be broken.  The African side are unlikely to change their game plan even if they do fall behind early on, as such a 1-0 win for Argentina looks a strong option in the correct score market.
