Eintracht Frankfurt vs Apollon Limassol Predictions

Eintracht Frankfurt have made an excellent start to a very tricky looking Europa League group which contains Lazio and Marseille. They kicked off with a superb 2-1 away win against French side Marseille, they had to come from behind in that one too as Marseille struck first with a 3rd minute goal. The equaliser came on the 52nd minute but they had to wait until the 89th minute to grab the winner through Jovic. They followed that result up by thrashing Lazio 4-1 at home in a very impressive performance by Die Adler.

Apollon have struggled so far in the group, as could be expected after landing in this heavyweight group. They lost their opening 2-1 away at Lazio and didn’t look all that bad in that game. They then faced Marseille at home and managed to battle out a 2-2 draw against the French side, despite going 2-0 down. 2 goals in the last 15 minutes rescued the game and gives them hope going into game week 3.

Frankfurt sit in 7th position in their domestic league table after 8 games. They have been solid at home, winning 2, drawing 1 and losing just 1 of their 4 games. They have been on fire in the goals department of late, netting 17 goals in their last 4 competitive games and also won 13-0 in a friendly.

Apollon have made the perfect start to their league campaign with 5 wins out of 5. The goals have also been flowing for them, netting a huge 18 times at an average of 3.6 goals per game. Strangely 4 of those 5 games have come at home where they have won them all, scoring 16 goals at a rate of 4 per game.

Frankfurt like the Europa League and generally do well in the competition, losing just 1 of their last 15 Europa League games. It’s a run that has seen them pick up some impressive results, beating Bordeaux 3-0 and 1-0, and 2-2 and 3-3 draws against Porto and home and away wins vs Qarabag. The last time Frankfurt played a team from Cyprus in the competition they beat APOEL 3-0 away and 2-0 at home.

Apollon have done well in qualifying for the group stages here but that’s as far as their form goes. Last season they finished bottom, however they had a tough group then too with Everton, Lyon and Atalanta all there. They are also really poor travellers in the competition, winning just 5 away games in 26 and losing 18.

Frankfurt have got their mojo back and are firing goals left right and centre at the moment, last time they faced Cyrpiot opposition they won both home and away to nil. We feel that Apollon are already resigned to their fate in this group, much like last year and will struggle here against the free flowing Frankfurt. For those reasons we are backing Frankfurt to win to nil, priced rather generously here. As for the correct score, we don’t think it will be a huge margin of victory as the away side like to keep things tight but we can see Frankfurt scoring a couple so will be backing 2-0 Frankfurt here.
