Exeter City vs Bristol Rovers Predictions
BETTING TIP – BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
CORRECT SCORE PREDICTION – EXETER CITY 2-1 BRISTOL ROVERS
- Bristol Rovers have scored in eight of their nine away games this season.
- Both teams have scored in six of the last seven EFL Trophy matches involving Exeter City.
Both teams to hit target in final group skirmish
Exeter City host Bristol Rovers in the final game of Southern Group E on Wednesday, but only one of these west country rivals can join Chelsea’s Under-21s in the next phase of the competition.
Although a draw would see Bristol Rovers through by virtue of their better goal difference, we don’t expect Joey Barton’s men to arrive in Devon with anything but revenge for their 4-1 August mauling on their minds. The Grecians put the Gas to the sword and led by four goals after just 24 minutes before allowing a late consolation to spare a modicum of embarrassment for the visitors.
Barton’s side have become tougher to beat on the road since, losing only one of their seven subsequent road trips, with major defensive improvements. But both teams have scored in seven of Rovers’ nine away games this season, which is one of the chief reasons why that is our preferred bet on Wednesday night.
Hosts haven’t lost in 90 mins since August
Both teams have also registered in six of the last seven EFL Trophy matches involving Exeter City, who come into this game in superb form, having not lost a match in 90 minutes since August 14 – 17 games ago.
That’s a reason to fancy the Grecians to pull off the victory they need to go through, but given the Gas’ good away run and record of scoring on their travels, we’ll play safe and just edge towards the hosts with a 2-1 correct score play.
Matt Taylor’s side have scored exactly two goals in seven of their last ten matches and rarely concede more than one.
