Friday night goal feast for Portuguese fans

Famalicao and Braga can serve up a Friday night treat in Portugal if both clubs continue with the attacking emphasis and defensive dereliction shown already this season.

Braga are going to be among the most entertaining teams to watch in the Primeira Liga if last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Sporting is anything to go by. Artur Jorge’s men have lost their leading scorer and best defender from last season, but the main difference in the Minho Warriors appears to be their willingness to take risks.

It can lead to them getting caught out by clubs with clinical finishers – as Sporting shows they have in converted three goals from an xG of around half that. But Braga matched the former champions in every metric and every department on the pitch to deserve their point.

Famalicao flopped on opening weekend

The Arsenalistas will head to Estádio Municipal 22 de Junho looking to avenge last season’s 3-2 final-round defeat, albeit it was a game of no importance to Braga after they had already wrapped up a Europa League berth.

Famalicao clambered up to an eighth-place finish with the three points that day, but they started the new campaign poorly with a 2-0 away defeat to Estoril. Rui Pedro Silva’s side were 2-0 down by the break as their defenders appeared unable to make a tackle, but a strong second-half response could have been good for a point had it not been for the home keeper saving a penalty and several other good chances.

Both teams to score will be a staple bet for Braga this season, but this one looks like providing more than just two goals with Famalicao seeing six of their last seven at home going over the 2.5 mark. A 2-1 away victory is the preferred correct score play as Braga won six of their last ten road trips last season and Famalicao were defensively poor last weekend.
