FC Copenhagen vs Celtic Predictions
- Celtic have won 100% of their matches since the turn of the year (nine from nine).
- The Bhoys have also won each of their last nine away fixtures in all competitions.
- Copenhagen won only two of their six group matches last year.
- Copenhagen scored exactly one goal in five of their six Group B matches.
Celtic keep racking up the wins
Celtic make the short hop to Denmark this week confident they can secure a Europa League Round of 32 first-leg lead at FC Copenhagen’s expense. The Bhoys continue to carve through their opponents with relative comfort in Scotland, and while their domestic performances haven’t come as a surprise, their Europe League displays this season have been a real highlight.
Celtic topped Group E before the turn of the year, losing just one of their six games on the way to taking 13 points from the 18 on offer. The Hoops’ double triumph over Serie A title-chasing Lazio was particularly impressive, and the wins showcased Celtic’s ability to mix it with the strongest sides in the competition.
On Thursday, Celtic travel to Denmark armed with a huge amount momentum following a run of nine straight victories in domestic competitions since January. With their self-belief soaring, they will back themselves to turn over an ordinary-looking FC Copenhagen outfit.
Copenhagen limped through Group Stage
The Danes made the knock-out rounds of the Europa League by the skin of their teeth, winning just two of their six Group B matches on their way to finishing as runners up behind Swedish club Malmo. FC Copenhagen scored just five times in their six Group B fixtures, rattling the net exactly once on five separate occasions during their uninspiring Europa League campaign.
Domestically, their Superliga title defence has also been faltering, and their hopes of retaining their crown took another major blow at the weekend when they were beaten 1-0 at Esbjerg in their first league match since the winter break – a result that leaves them trailing Midtjylland at the top of the standings by four points, having played a game more than their rivals.
That narrow reverse is certain to have had a major confidence-knocking effect in the Copenhagen ranks, and a red-hot Celtic team look primed to take advantage of any fragility their hosts show this week.
Celtic to triumph?
Running alongside Celtic’s fabulous nine-match winning streak is an equally fantastic run of nine straight away wins and, with the Bhoys in full flow, we expect them to secure a first-leg lead in Denmark this week.
With the Hoops in such electric form, they are priced generously to win this week, and having bagged two goals in three of their four Europa League wins earlier this season, we’re tipping Celtic to notch two more in a 2-1 win.
FC Copenhagen haven’t been particularly potent in attack in the Europa League this season, though they did manage to find the net in five of their six group matches last year. They should have just about enough to hit a consolation effort against a Celtic team still searching for their first away clean sheet in the competition.
